Aerial Lift Bridge: View From Peace Church, Duluth, Minnesota

A winter view of the Duluth Harbor, the Aerial Lift Bridge, and Lake Superior from 1015 East Eleventh Street, the site of Peace Church. The church has evolved through three names. In 1872, the German congregation chose the name St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. The first church built that same year at Tenth Avenue East and Third Street still stands as an apartment building, and is the oldest church building in Duluth. 50th anniversary celebration of the Duluth Talmud Torah, Duluth, Minnesota

Men and women sit at rows of long tables for anniversary celebration of the Duluth Talmud Torah. The Duluth Jewish community at its height in the 1930s numbered about 4,000. Duluth's profile mirrored that of larger cities to the south, including a mix of German and eastern European settlers. The fact that both groups arrived within the same decade helped prevent some of the same identity-based separation that occurred in Minneapolis and St. Paul.
